Die cutting is one of the most diversified methods for shaping products in the manufacturing industry because die cut machines may be designed for the creation of specific products by way of specific materials. Since a single machine cannot be expected to slice through every imaginable material with the same end result and certain types of products require different die cutting techniques to be created, there are a plethora of die cut machines on the market today to accommodate all of the possible material and product combinations. When discussing all of these factors, one cannot help but be impressed by the spectrum option die cutting provides the manufacturing industry as well as many other companies in the industrial and commercial contexts.

Common materials that are shaped into die cut products include the basic metal and plastic varieties as well as other substances with more varied textures. For example, wood is often shaped by way of a die cutting machine, whether the machine is utilizing lasers or blades to create the final product. Die cut foam is another popular substance produced by way of die cutting techniques. Others include rubber, textile, glass, rock and ceramics, all of which require the die cutting machines working on them to be adjusted to accommodate the thickness and hardness of the material. The only requirement before a material is to be created by a die cutter is that the material be in sheet form.

Products that come from the die cutting technique span the electronic, hydraulic, automotive, medical and consumer product industries, to name just a few. Die cut foam is used to make gaskets, inserts and insulators as well as sound proofing materials for walls and floors alike. Cloth bandages and metal medical tools may be produced by die cutting methods. Other examples of products include corrugated boxes, the framework for metallic electronics and plastic toys, id cards, stickers and novelty products.
